A recent comment by Celtic boss Neil Lennon can only be considered good news for the Celtic support and the club overall. Lennon confirmed that Hoops striker Odsonne Edouard will not be leaving the club in the January transfer window.
“There’s no chance of him leaving in January. Absolutely not. We’ve got too much to do here. He is a class player and is pivotal to us” Lennon said, as reported by the Daily Record.
“No position to sell”
“He will be linked with everybody in the next couple of weeks and come the end of January, but we are in no position to sell.”
Those comments are very strong from the Hoops boss. He is declaring that Celtic do not need to sell a player who will be vital to their title hopes.
That can only be applauded by the Celtic support. It is no secret that Edouard will eventually leave Celtic sooner rather than later.
But that won’t be any time this season, as pointed out by Neil Lennon. Lennon is correct when he comments about all the teams that will be linked with Edouard in January.
His brilliant form for both Celtic and the French under-21 side will have caught the eyes of many teams looking for a striker.
Makes no sense for Hoops to sell player
It would not make any sense for Celtic to sell Edouard, even for financial reasons. It could be argued that it did make sense to sell both Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney when Celtic did.
The Hoops were able to replace those players to an extent. However, selling Edouard in the middle of a title race would be a very bad idea.
He is the only Celtic striker at the moment that is guaranteed to get the Hoops a goal. Replacing him would be extremely difficult.
That is why Celtic fans should be delighted that Neil Lennon is committed to keeping Edouard at the club.
