Since Neil Lennon has been in charge of Celtic he has selected Scott Bain as his number one goalkeeper. However, following Bain’s latest mistake, perhaps it is time that Neil Lennon made a change in goals.
Bain has not looked great this season. He could have done far better with Liam Donnelly’s first goal for Motherwell in Celtic’s recent 5-2 win at Fir Park.
Could have done better with pivotal goal
The Hoops got away with that error as they won the game. However, that was not the case in the 4-3 loss to Cluj. The goalkeeper could have done better with Cluj’s pivotal third goal, which brought them right back into the game.
He saved Constantin Paun’s initial shot, but was unable to get the rebound which was fired home by Billel Omrani.
All in all, Bain looked a tad shaky throughout the game, although he probably wasn’t helped by the poor performance his defenders turned in.
Former number one could return
However, Neil Lennon may decide to give Craig Gordon another run in goals. The veteran goalkeeper has recovered from a knee injury, and it would be no shock to see him start against Dunfermline in the Betfred Cup in Saturday.
Should Gordon turn in a good performance, he may well keep his place in the Hoops side going forward. It will be interesting to see if Celtic go into the transfer market for a goalkeeper in the next few weeks. Lennon may decide to bring his own goalkeeper in.
However, in the short-term at least, Bain may be replaced by Gordon.
