Neil Lennon should select Greg Taylor should Bolingoli miss Lazio

Celtic boss Neil Lennon may have a selection dilemma for Thursday’s game against Lazio. He could be without Boli Bolingoli, who suffered a hamstring injury in the weekend’s 5-2 win over Hibs.

Should Bolingoli miss out, then the manager’s options are either Jonny Hayes or Greg Taylor. The player that should be selected in that case is Greg Taylor.

Taylor has made only one appearance for the Bhoys since joining the club from Kilmarnock on the last day of the transfer window.

He is a left-back by trade

He started the recent 2-0 win over St Mirren, and played well enough for the Hoops on the day. The main reason that Taylor should start over Hayes if Bolingoli misses out is that Taylor is an actual left-back.

He’s not a converted attacking player like Hayes is. That is no disrespect to Hayes, who has been an excellent servant at times for the Hoops. But against a team the quality of Lazio, it would make more sense to start Taylor.

It should also be remembered that Taylor is a player that Celtic pursued for most of the transfer window. Neil Lennon was more than keen to sign the player. That has made has lack of apperances for the Hoops so far so startling.

Selection could kickstart Hoops career

However, he could really kickstart his Hoops career with a start in Lazio. It would undeniably be a test for the player, one of the biggest he has faced in his career.

That is why he signed for Celtic though, to play in the big games. There is not many bigger for Celtic than a game away from home in Europe.

Perhaps Bolingoli will win his battle to be fit for the game. If that is the case, he will most likely start. However, if he can’t make it, then Taylor should be handed his second start for the Hoops.
