It has to be said that Celtic’s decision to award Scott Sinclair a new contract in the summer is looking like a big mistake.
The Hoops attacker had a contract extension for one-year triggered in the summer. Since then, his performances for Celtic have been few and far between.
Didn’t make squad for vital fixture
For example, he wasn’t even in the squad for the Champions League qualifier against Cluj. In retrospect, that could be seen as a mistake. Sinclair’s experience could have been useful for a Celtic team which looked to be falling apart in the second-half.
However, Neil Lennon does not seem to be a fan of the player. He has rarely featured since Lennon took over as caretaker then permanent Hoops boss.
A surprise he is still at club
The only surprise is that he is still at the club. Teams were interested in signing the player in the summer transfer window – Preston for one – but no move materialised.
It really is a bit of a waste to have the player not even in the squad. He could still contribute to the first team. However, for the moment, it looks as if Sinclair will be lucky to even make the bench for Celtic.
That may change in the future. It is sad to see the player’s Celtic career petering out at the moment though. He has been an excellent player for the club. However, it looks like Sinclair’s days as a first-team regular are over.
