The Celtic supporters acknowledged a marked improvement in utility man Nir Bitton as he put in another impressive individual display with Israel last night.

The Israelis ultimately succumbed to a 3-2 loss in Scotland that all but ended their World Cup qualification hopes. However, Bitton, who was deployed on the right side if a back three, again didn’t put a foot wrong.

Some will point to him playing Scott McTominay onside for his dramatic late winner. But the truth is it was hardly his fault considering he was tasked with marking Lyndon Dykes at the front post.

Even despite the goals it felt as though Scotland could get no change out of the Celtic man. Bitton managed to stroll through the game and was comfortable enough up against Dykes and Che Adams.

Bitton already had a series of top displays against the Scots to his name with Israel already. In recent years, he’s proved to be a beacon of calmness for his country, and it’s clear to see why he’s a regular for Willibald Ruttensteiner.

Nir Bitton produces again for Israel; Celtic fans left wondering where he’s been hiding

This is par for the course for Bitton when he goes away with Israel. He always manages to stand out and you’ll do well to find him making a bad individual mistake.

But it’s also important to remember that this international break comes off of the back of a fine display from the defender away to Aberdeen. Bitton was one of the better players at Pittodrie, granted he was playing in his more natural defensive-midfield position.

Bitton has been in and out of the Celtic team under Ange Postecoglou this season. But it appears he could be in line for another run in the XI once again. Especially with the manager showing he can mix things up in Aberdeen.

So it was promising to see Bitton put in another faultless display for Israel. It feels odd to be praising a defender whose team shipped 3 goals. However, when you look at how Nir in particular performed, you can’t have any complaints.

And it’s clear Celtic fans were left feeling the same way just before the late winner last night. Here’s a look at some of the reaction:
