Celtic boss Neil Lennon no doubt has some intriguing selection decisions on his mind heading into the Europa League play-off match against AIK.
With the team currently in an unconvincing run of form, he might well decide to pick the players who have rarely let him down in the past.
Therefore, it would not be a surprise to see him pick Nir Bitton in his starting line-up. That would be a good move. Bitton played in the 2-1 win over Dunfermline in the Betfred Cup. However, he was absent from the side which lost 4-3 to Cluj. He didn’t make it off the bench.
Could have made a difference in Champions League tie
Could he have made a difference against Cluj? Quite possibly. He would have been useful especially in the second-half of the game. The Hoops were seemingly unable to gain control of the match.
He would have calmed the match down, and kept the ball in midfield.
The most important thing for Celtic to consider against AIK is to make sure that the team do not concede a goal.
Team less likely to concede if he plays?
The chances of AIK getting through the Hoops midfield would be diminished if Bitton was selected. It can be argued that he is an unheralded type of player.
Whilst his team-mates are celebrated, he gets on with the job. That may be a reason why Neil Lennon has selected the player for some big games.
He doesn’t let the occasion phase him. Therefore, it would not be a surprise to see Bitton start against AIK. It would be a good decision by the Hoops boss.
