Orjan Nylandโ€™s World Cup numbers make him a Celtic free-transfer no-brainer

Celtic do not need to spend millions to replace Kasper Schmeichel when a World Cup quarter-finalist is available for nothing.

Nyland emerged as one of Norwayโ€™s World Cup heroes after saving a penalty and producing a decisive performance in their win over Brazil.

After leaving Sevilla at the end of his contract this summer, Nyland could be the perfect short-term solution as Celtic look to add depth to the goalkeeping position for Martin Oโ€™Neill.

Orjan Nylandโ€™s World Cup numbers should interest Celtic

Nyland returns from the World Cup without a club, and Celtic should be asking what it would take to bring him to Glasgow.

Nylandโ€™s stats were by no means exceptional, but his 76-cap experience and winning silverware in Germany and Norway make the big Norwegian a good addition to any team in Europe.

Why Nyland could be a Celtic free-transfer no-brainer

Nyland would not need to arrive as Celticโ€™s long-term number one. He could offer immediate experience, compete for the position with Viljami Sinisalo and allow Celtic to spend their transfer budget on other priority areas.

His international and European experience would also reduce the risk of throwing a younger goalkeeper into Champions League qualifying matches.

The absence of a transfer fee makes the move especially attractive. Celtic would only need to weigh up whether his wages, contract demands and physical condition represent value for money.

Nyland is not a flawless goalkeeper or a long-term solution, but Celtic will struggle to find another free agent with his experience, pedigree and ability to deliver under World Cup pressure.
