Other clubs should be envious of Celtic's left-back options

Celtic’s left-back situation has become very interesting in recent weeks. The Hoops now look to have three players who are able to play in that position. That is a real change from last season, when at times the only option looked to be Kieran Tierney, who had injury issues.

It has all changed now at Celtic, as three players are battling it out for one position in the side. The first choice player when fit is Boli Bolingoli, who has overcome a poor start to his Hoops career to become a mainstay in the side.

However, Jonny Hayes has become an option in recent weeks, as he started in place of the injured Bolingoli in Rome and was excellent in Celtic’s 2-1 win over Lazio. He then followed that up with a fine display against Motherwell before the international break.

Three good options

Greg Taylor is also an option for the Hoops. He may have only played one game for Celtic so far. However, he played twice for Scotland recently and performed well on both occasions. That is three good options the Hoops have at left-back.

That is a situation that other teams should be envious about. Often teams struggle at full-back, Celtic did last season. However, the Hoops have a trio of quality players battling it out for a place in the first-team. Other teams in the Premiership would love to have that luxury. Interestingly, Celtic have the same situation at right-back. That is a very good situation to have.

Manager has to keep players happy

What Neil Lennon has to do is make sure that the players are happy in their roles. So far, he seems to be doing that. There is no doubt that Greg Taylor, for example, would have liked to have featured for the Hoops more often than he has done.

However, so good has been the form of the players in front of him that he can’t really complain about not being picked.

As long as Celtic have three good options at left-back, the club will continue to thrive in that position.
