Our View: A pity if Celtic’s Jeremie Frimpong can’t pick up award

With all the problems currently facing football, it is not really surprising that the end of season awards have been mostly forgotten about.

In fact, we don’t even know if the awards will be handed out, as we don’t yet know when the season will be completed.

However, if you are being hypothetical about the situation, you would imagine that Celtic would have dominated the awards, which are voted for by the players in Scotland.

For example, for player of the year, there is only one choice – the brilliant Odosnne Edouard. However, we thought we’d focus on a player who seemed certain to be named as the young player of the year – Jeremie Frimpong.

Fantastic since making Hoops breakthrough

Frimpong has been fantastic since making the breakthrough to the Hoops first-team in the Betfred Cup game against Partick Thistle.

Since then, he played for the Hoops in difficult away trips, Glasgow derbies, and made his Hoops debut in Europe, which is some going for a player who is just 19.

Hopefully the end of season awards will take place at some time in the near future. You would think that the only time they would be cancelled will be if the season gets cancelled, and declared null and void.

Surely Scottish football wouldn’t allow that to happen, the season must allowed to play to finish, no matter how long it takes.

That would allow the end of season awards to be given out, and would allow Frimpong another moment of glory, in what has been a terrific first season in the professional ranks.

Few would have expected player to become regular

It was unlikely that when Frimpong joined the Hoops in the summer from Manchester City in the summer that he would be a first-team regular.

However, through sheer skill and determination he has earned his place in the Hoops side, which deserves to be rewarded by his fellow professionals.

Will Frimpong get his reward? How good has been for the Hoops this season? Share your thoughts below with a comment in our new discussion forum…
