The fallout and debate over the decisions made by the SFA compliance officer and the disciplinary panel following Celtic’s 2-1 loss to Rangers seems to be never-ending.
Now Celtic boss Neil Lennon has revealed that a much publicised summit with the Premiership managers, referees and the SFA compliance officer this time last year featured plenty of debate about how the SFA reached their decisions.
So far though, nothing has been done which will satisfy the players or managers of Scotland’s top-flight teams.
Main talking point of summit was VAR
“We had the one last season in Perth but the main talking point was about VAR. In terms of suspensions and the changes in the way thing are done, there was a lot of debate about that but there’s still a bit of unrest” Lennon, said, as quoted in the Daily Record, regarding last season’s summit.
Lennon’s quotes just seem to prove that the summit was a waste of time.
The fact that the main talking point to come out of the summit was the introduction of VAR, which still isn’t used in Scottish football, proves that.
Something does have to be done about the consistency of the SFA’s decisions. The Ryan Christie ban from this season and Alfredo Morelos’ lack of ban for a similar incident proves that.
Summit is only useful if something gets done
However, there is no point in holding any other summits or meetings unless something is going to get done at them.
That seems to be the problem with the SFA, a meeting is held a year ago, discussions take place, and then nothing happens.
It will be intriguing to see if the SFA decide to call another summit this season. Neil Lennon should seek guarantees that something concrete will come out of any summit, or he should just decide not to attend.
Only time will tell if the SFA will decide to hold another summit, and if the Celtic boss decides to attend.
