Our View: Celtic must emulate feat of last season to stay on course for title

Despite the 2-1 loss to Rangers before the winter break, Celtic do remain top of the league, a fact that seems to have been forgotten about in all the debate following the fixture.

Should the Hoops win the rest of their league fixtures this season – a long-shot, I know – they will win the title for the ninth season in a row.

One thing that could be vital in Celtic’s battle with Rangers for the title is the experience the Hoops players have in winning the league.

It should not be forgotten about that the Hoops faced a similar situation last season, after the winter break. The Hoops went into the first game back after losing 1-0 to Rangers at Ibrox.

Celtic responded in style, winning the first 11 domestic games after the break in a row, scoring 30 goals, and conceding only two.

A repeat of that run would be most welcome this season.

Celtic are more than capable of emulating the excellent run that the team put on this time last season. The players who are currently at the club are mostly the same ones who went on the excellent run.

The likes of Odsonne Edouard, James Forrest and when he returns from injury Ryan Christie could help the Hoops go on another winning run.

It is perhaps telling that following any poor results this season, Celtic have gone on lengthy winning runs.

The Hoops won nine games and drew two following the loss to Cluj. After the loss to Livingston, Celtic won 13 domestic games in a row.

Another run like that might need to be similar to ensure that the Hoops stay on track to win nine in a row.

Happily for Neil Lennon, he will trust the players in the squad. He knows what they can do. Go on a run that will leave the rest of Scottish football in the dust.
