As Leeds United got to celebrate their Championship title victory in front of hundreds of fans last night, I can’t have been the only Celtic fan feeling a little frustrated.
Just like Neil Lennon’s men, the Yorkshire side finished top of the table for season 2019/2020.
They were presented with the Championship trophy in an empty Elland Road on Wednesday night. No problem there.

But the issue I have is with what occurred shortly afterwards, as Marcelo Bielsa’s squad took the trophy outside onto an open top bus and stood in front of hundreds of their adoring fans.
Other than the obvious concerns over a lack of social distancing, the fact that the Leeds squad got to celebrate like that while Celtic’s first-team didn’t doesn’t seem particularly fair.
Especially when you consider that Covid-19 cases down south are far higher than they are in Scotland.
The SPFL should have organised a group trophy lift
I’m not suggesting that Neil Lennon’s men should have been allowed to dust off the open top bus during the height of the pandemic.
Nor am I saying that we should be allowed to do so now.

But it just hurts a little that Leeds were able to indulge in such title glory, while all our players got was a one-on-one with the Premiership trophy.
Liverpool also got their hands on the Premier League version last night.
There were no fans inside Anfield for the magic moment, but it didn’t seem to detract too much from Virgil Van Dijk and co’s celebrations.

Could the SPFL not have organised a similar event for us? Even if it was after our game against Hamilton a week on Sunday.
Maybe I’m taking this all a little too personally. The other three SPFL champions – Dundee United, Raith Rovers and Cove Rangers – didn’t get a joint celebration either.
It would just have been nice to see our history equalling nine in-a-row achievement given a little more respect by those in power.
