Our view: One simple change can ensure Celtic beat Copenhagen

Celtic face Copenhagen on Thursday night aiming to qualify for the Europa League last 16.

It can be easily be achieved if Neil Lennon decides to revert back to form with just one change.

The team which got the Scottish champions where they are should remain as first choice.

However, the introduction of right-back Jeremie Frimpong should be the only amendment.

The team for Thursday night does essentially pick itself if Lennon plans on going 4-2-3-1.

Fraser Forster will of course be between the sticks following a competition-saving campaign.

Kristoffer Ajer and Christopher Jullien will partner the centre-back line and Boli Bolingoli should be brought back in after his good showings in Europe.

James Forrest and Mohammed Elyounoussi should be on the wings with Scott Brown, Callum McGregor and Olivier Ntcham as the midfield three.

Of course, Odsonne Edouard will be leading the line up front proving he is the best striker in Scotland.

Jeremie Frimpong is key to Hoops victory in Denmark

But, the inclusion of  Frimpong to the UEFA list in January proves he is in Lennon’s plans.

The recent 3-5-2 hasn’t been tried and tested in Europe this season, but has been successful.

In that case there is no room for the likes of Frimpong or even Elyounoussi which is only detrimental to the team.

It would be understandable though as both players haven’t played a lot of football recently.

Players such as Frimpong though have shown massive resilience and he can be a huge weapon from the start.

Lennon switching the shape to 4-2-3-1 would be a surprise for the Danes studying Celtic’s recent shape.

Frimpong also has pace to burn and along with Forrest, he can give the left-back a torrid time.

He is also a better option than the likes of Jonny Hayes, who could start on the other side of the pitch.

Lennon needs to utilise everything in his arsenal to get the victory against a respectable side.

This includes returning to a back four which Frimpong should be in.

Not only will he tighten up the ship, but he is an incredible asset going forward and we need both.

The game will also be the first opportunity for the Dutchman to face European competition – he will fly through it.

Lennon trusted Frimpong enough to throw him into the first team, now it’s time for the Irishman to back it up by deservedly starting him against Copenhagen.
