Celtic prospect Jack Aitchison got his loan spell at Forest Green Rovers off to a flyer on Saturday with a debut goal away to Cambridge United.

Aitchison was a deadline day signing for the English side. He had to settle for a place on the bench for the weekend League Two clash. However, it surely won’t be long until he’s a regular starter.

Taking the ball on the left hand edge of the box, Aitchison came inside and jinked past a defender before slamming a shot home.

It proved crucial, with Rovers winning 1-0 and taking all three points home. The club now sit fifth in League Two, four points off leaders Exeter City.

Aitchison’s chance to play for a team chasing promotion should be excellent experience for him at 19 years of age.

He’s outgrown underage and reserve matches. Now he has an opportunity to show he can find consistency at senior level against seasoned professionals.
