Legendary Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner has made an intriguing prediction about former Hoops number one goalkeeper Craig Gordon.
He believes that as Gordon moves towards the final years of his career, the player will be content to stay as Hoops number two goalkeeper behind Scott Bain.
“Going to stay put”
“Is he going to go somewhere else and play at his age? I’d think he’s probably going to stay put and hope he gets another chance” Bonner said, as reported by the Scottish Sun.
“If he was maybe a bit younger and being overlooked, he’d be looking to get out. But at 36, I think he’d be quite happy to have another season at Celtic and see where it takes him.”
Could leave in a year for free
Gordon’s contract at Celtic only has one season left, so in a year’s time he could leave the club on a free transfer. However, Gordon might feel that he wants to play football on a regular basis.
A few seasons ago he could have left the Hoops, but the club turned down a bid from Chelsea. It is hard to predict if clubs would still be interested in Gordon. After all, he hasn’t played for the Hoops since December.
It will be intriguing to see if Gordon elects to stay with the club. Or if elects to move on for first-team football. Bonner certainly has given his verdict.
