Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell hasn’t always been the most popular man amongst the Hoops support. However, he deserves plenty of credit for some recent activity that the Hoops have done.
In the past two weeks, three players have committed their long-term futures to the club. The trio are players who have played a vital role in Celtic’s recent years of Scottish football domination.
James Forrest, Scott Bain and most recently Callum McGregor have all agreed to long-term deals with the club.
Trio could be Celtic mainstays for years
That gives the Hoops a platform to build on for many years to come. Bain, Forrest and McGregor could all be Celtic mainstays for a long time.
The fact that they are staying with the club for potentially years to come helps the Hoops in their bid to win nine in a row and beyond.
Lawwell deserves credit for sanctioning the deals that fans have been hoping would be signed. McGregor and Forrest in particular are key men for the Hoops. It is really good news for the club that they have committed their future to Celtic.
Fans will be hoping more players commit to club
Fans will be hoping that more players will be signing on the dotted sooner rather than later. One player in particular they will be hoping signs a new deal is Odsonne Edouard.
The striker’s contract runs until 2022. However, a new deal for the player could keep him at the club for a while longer. It could also ensure that the player earns Celtic a very large transfer fee when he does eventually leave.
Neil Lennon must be delighted with the recent contracts the Hoops players have signed. It shows that he and Peter Lawwell are working well together. Their success is key to the future of Celtic. If they are working in unison it bodes well for the Hoops going forward.
Should the Hoops go on to win nine, then 10 titles in a row, persuading the likes of Forrest and McGregor to stay at the club will have been a key part of that.
