Rangers result should have no impact on Celtic motivation

You would imagine that a number of Celtic fans will be paying close attention to Rangers trip to Edinburgh to play Hibs on Friday.

Following the recent 2-0 win over Hearts, the Hoops are currently five points clear of their bitter rivals. Should the Ibrox side fail to pick up the three points Celtic will be clear at the top of the Premiership with a chance to extend that lead against Aberdeen on Saturday.

Neil Lennon will also be well-aware of what happens at Easter Road. The result in that game should have no impact on Celtic’s motivation for the Aberdeen game.

Celtic should be motivated to keep winning because that is what a good team does. The Hoops are on a run of nine league wins on the spin, and the manager and players won’t want that to end anytime soon.

There is a chance that the fans could be affected by Rangers’ result. Should the Ibrox side drop points then there could be a party atmosphere at Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon.

All about what the Hoops do

It is really about what Celtic do, and not what their rivals for the title do. Obviously it is a bonus if Rangers drop points. However, Neil Lennon and the players will only be looking at their own game, against an Aberdeen side who currently sit third in the table. The game will not be easy. Lennon will know that the Hoops will have to be at their best, with no distractions to win the game.

Celtic have three games before the winter break, against Aberdeen, St Mirren and Rangers. Nine points from those games would put the Bhoys in great position to win the title.

One way to do that is to take one game at a time, and don’t concern yourself with what your rivals are doing. The chance to win three points on Saturday should provide enough motivation for the Hoops.
