Celtic could be tempted by Alaves striker Patrick Twumasi this summer, if reports are to be believed. Football Ghana report that Twumasi is attracting interest from Danish side Copenhagen while Celtic could also be involved in a potential deal.

The 25-year-old will be a familiar name to most Celtic fans. He was part of the Astana side that we beat in Champions League qualifying in both 2016 and 2017. The Ghanaian netted a double in the most recent clash between the side’s – a 4-3 win for the Kazakh outfit.

He was linked with Celtic last summer but ended up making the move to La Liga side Deportivo Alaves. However, things have gone far from swimmingly for Twumasi who featured just 13 times last season and didn’t net a single goal.

Should we make our move?

Twumasi always looked handy enough when we faced him in Europe but his recent record doesn’t make for good reading. The attacker didn’t start a single match for the Spaniards so he clearly had some sort of issue adjusting to his new surroundings.

Bringing him to Celtic with all the expectation and pressure probably wouldn’t work. We need players who are ready to stand up and be counted next season and there would be doubts over Twumasi’s character.

Even in his most prolific season for Astana he only netted 13 goals. We’d be looking for a first-choice striker to hit double that. Celtic can do much better than the Ghanaian this summer.
