Celtic could be set to solve one of the problem positions in the side, according to a report. The Daily Mail are reporting that the Hoops are interested in signing Sheffield United right-back George Baldock.

The report goes on to claim that the player has one-year left on his contract, and that he is ‘interested’ in talking to the Hoops.

Regular for promotion winners

Baldock was a regular for the Blades last season as they won promotion to the Premier League. He made 27 appearances for his team.

Interestingly, when he played for United he was used as a right-winger. You would have to imagine that will not be the case with Celtic.

The Hoops already have James Forrest for that position. No, if he moves to Celtic it would be as a right-back, you would imagine.

Struggled to solve problem position

Celtic have struggled with the right-back position in recent times. Jeremy Toljan didn’t impress in his brief spell at the club.

Meanwhile, Mikael Lustig is coming towards the end of his career, and may yet decide to leave the Hoops in the summer.

That is why it is important that the Hoops sign a right-back in the summer transfer window. If Baldock is as interested in joining as the report claims, the Hoops should look to get the deal done.

Celtic need to get players in before the Champions League qualifiers begin in July. This would be a good start.
