Almost three months on and Ryan Stevenson is still in pain about Hearts’ title collapse at Celtic Park on the final day of last season.
Hearts came within minutes of a historic win but Celtic ripped that dream from their grasp with a late double that left Gorgie, and Stevenson, heartbroken.
And as clubs in the SPFL gear up for the new season ahead, Stevenson just can’t let go of the agony of that fateful day at Celtic Park.

Ryan Stevenson’s Hearts ‘fear’ after Celtic Park title heartbreak
Stevenson’s Hearts pain has been brilliant to watch. The former player turned pundit was one of the most outspoken people when the title race was going at full pelt.
And with just weeks until the beginning of the new season and Hearts having lost Derek McInnes and Shankland to Rangers, Stevenson is now fearing what lies ahead.
He wrote in his column in the Daily Record, “Has any club in the history of football come within three minutes of winning a title and then been torn apart and dismantled so much within about three weeks?
“Seriously, I feel as if I am going to go to the first game of the new season and I am not going to recognise half of the Hearts team.
“I can only think: How can this happen?”
Stevenson fears Hearts have gone too far this summer
Tony Bloom brought in the grand plan of Jamestown Analytics and how this new model of recruitment will revolutionise the Tynecastle club.
It almost worked too. Almost. But it seems the model they are using is going too far as Hearts start to sell off the core of the team that pushed Celtic close last season.
The second season after the title challenge was always going to be the barometer to gauge if Hearts can really challenge Celtic for the title and keep Rangers as the third force in Scottish football.
It looks like Stevenson has lost faith in a process he was lauding for pretty much the whole of last year and for Celtic fans, that pain is superb to see.
