Scott Sinclair found it difficult to live to historic Celtic start

It looks as if Scott Sinclair’s time at Celtic is set to come to an end after three-and-a-half trophy-laden years. The Hoops winger is set for talks with Preston, as reported by Sky Sports.

Should he leave Celtic the part he played in the ‘treble treble’ will be remembered fondly. His first season at Celtic in particular was excellent, as he scored 25 goals and was rightly named as Scotland’s player of the year.

However, that has to go down as his best season for the Hoops. Since then, despite scoring goals, he has not been as consistent a player. Perhaps the signs were there when he lost his place in the first-team under Neil Lennon’s caretaker management.

That has extended into this season, as Sinclair didn’t make a single start. A far cry from when he was a regular under Brendan Rodgers.

Maybe on reflection Sinclair has found it difficult to live up to what was a historic start to his Celtic career. He became the first Celtic player to score in six consecutive opening league matches since the legendary Jimmy McGrory in 1935. That set the tone for his first season with the club.

The way always going to be down after first season

That fed into his form for the rest of the season, and it was no surprise that he won every player of the year award going. Perhaps after that start the way was always going to be down.

It is still a bit of a shock that Sinclair hasn’t started at all for the Hoops this season, especially when you take into account how many fixtures Celtic played in December.

Now it looks like Sinclair’s time at the club is coming to an end. He will go down as a Celtic hero, for the number of goals and trophies won in his time in Glasgow. Hopefully he gets a chance to say a proper farewell to the Hoops support at some stage this season.
