We continue our season report of Celtic’s players in the 2018/19 season with a look at Celtic’s number 19 Scott Allan.

The inevitable Celtic departure of Scott Allan won’t have come as a surprise to anyone in Scottish football. Allan signed a pre-contract agreement with Hibernian to return to a side where he has played his best football in recent years.

Few appearances made

Allan’s time at Celtic hasn’t been much to write home about unfortunately. He spent four years with the Hoops and in that time only made 17 appearances.

Interestingly, the man who helped him play great football at Hibs, Neil Lennon, is now back as Celtic manager. Despite that, Allan didn’t make any appearances for the Hoops last season, not even after Lennon took charge in February.

Can’t blame player for his decision

Perhaps if Allan had another year left on his contract, he could have been persuaded to stay under Lennon. But you can’t really blame him for electing to leave the Hoops.

Moves often don’t work out for players, and this has been the case with Scott Allan and Celtic. However, he has shown in his loan spell at Hibs that he can still offer much to the Scottish game.

That will not be at Celtic though, and his departure is the best move for all parties.
