Selling Ismaila Soro would be a major blow to the Celtic rebuild

Ismaila Soro simply must stay at Celtic for the sake of all parties ahead of a crucial summer rebuild.

The Ivorian has incredibly been linked with a summer move to Tottenham Hotspur [Daily Mail]. This comes totally out of the blue as we conclude a season in which the Ivorian has only featured 21 times [Transfermarkt].

A move to the EPL for a player you could call a Celtic bench-warmer would be a first. However, Celtic can’t go looking to try and get as much money as possible when it comes to this one.

The reason? Soro is a colossal part of the Celtic rebuild for next season. He’s the best-placed midfielder to take over from Scott Brown, who’ll leave for Aberdeen this summer. If we were to allow Soro to go too, it leaves us with a massive shortage.

In fact, it would leave Celtic without any viable replacement for the outgoing captain. That’s what makes Soro all the more valuable to Celtic – he’s the only player capable of taking over from Brown permanently.

Of course, plenty will be raising an eyebrow with this report anyway. The prospect of a managerless Spurs making signings would be an unusual one. But it would hardly be unheard of.

Ismaila Soro can’t go, but someone at Celtic is making transfer decisions;

After all, haven’t we been buying and selling players without a new manager in the door? The likes of Liam Shaw was announced after Neil Lennon had left the club. Meanwhile, the likes of Patryk Klimala, Andrew Gutman, and Cameron Harper have all left.

Someone at Celtic is making some big transfer decisions. So if a big offer was to come in from Spurs, it’s hardly a stretch to see Celtic taking it.

What we can’t lose sight of, however, is the bigger picture. Yes, a sizable fee for Soro would give us more to work with regarding said rebuild. However, we would be losing a player we don’t need to lose despite knowing he can perform at domestic level.

Remember, Soro has bossed games against the likes of Lille and Rangers this season. When he’s been given a run in the team, he’s proven he’s as good if not better than Brown.

And it’s fair to say the fans are itching to see Ismaila stay at the club too as they reacted to the news:

In other news, Celtic are reportedly set to take a classy social media stance on Friday.
