Should Simunovic lose his place in Celtic team he will rue rash challenge

At the moment, Neil Lennon has not settled on his preferred centre-back pairing for Celtic for the upcoming season.

The recent Champions League qualifiers have seen Nir Bitton, Jozo Simunovic and Kristoffer Ajer play at centre-back.

Recent £7 million arrival Christopher Jullien will obviously feature sooner rather than later. He could replace Jozo Simunovic in the opening two league games of the season.

Simunovic is suspended for those games after being sent-off in a pre-season friendly against St Gallen. It was a silly challenge to make in the game, a high boot which caught his opponent.

Therefore, it looks like Jullien will have a chance to establish himself in the side in the league games.

Should Simunovic end up losing his place in the side, he will rue that red card. He has worked hard to get back into the team after being out of favour for much of last season.

However, getting sent-off in a pre-season friendly really doesn’t do the player any good at all. Neil Lennon won’t have been impressed with the situation.

Simunovic and Ajer will be Celtic’s number one defenders this season you would imagine, especially when the Hoops play with four at the back.

When the team goes to three at the back, then perhaps Simunovic could make his return to the team. That red card could turn out to be very costly though, especially if Jullien impresses for the Hoops in his first appearances.
