All at Celtic were no doubt disappointed when Neil Lennon revealed that Marian Shved didn’t travel to Sarajevo for the Hoops’ Champions league clash on Tuesday.
However, Shved’s absence could perhaps lead to a Hoops start for a player who has impressed in pre-season and did well at the end of last season. That player is Mikey Johnston.
Johnston did well for the Hoops at the end of last season. He starred in the last league game of the season – the 2-1 win over Hearts. His good form has carried over into this season.

Hoops legend has been impressed
Johnston has excelled for the Hoops in pre-season. Indeed, former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has been impressed with Johnston’s form. He claimed that the player has been ‘superb‘ in pre-season.
Therefore, it would not be a shock to see Johnston start for the Hoops against Sarajevo. It would prove that Neil Lennon has faith in the player to start what is a big game for Celtic.

Start could lead to run in team
Should Johnston shine against Sarajevo, the likes of Shved and Scott Sinclair could find it difficult to displace Johnston from the starting line-up.
The Champions League qualifiers could be a big opportunity for Johnston to make his mark on the Hoops starting line-up. Should he feature and do well against Sarajevo, it could be the start of a very good season for the player.
