Some Celtic fans have reacted poorly to former player Craig Beattie’s comments on Odsonne Edouard.

Beattie played for the club at the start of his career, leaving in 2007. Since retirement at the end of last season he’s forging a career as a pundit.

His most recent appearance came on the Wednesday edition of Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, during which he suggested Edouard’s debut season on loan at the Hoops was much worse than rival player Ryan Kent’s.

Speaking on Clyde 1, Beattie said of the duo: “It’s definitely not a gamble [signing Kent]. I’m going to draw an analogy to Brendan Rodgers bringing Eduoard in on loan with the £9m permanent fee that would come.

“Kent done a lot better than what Edouard did on his loan season and I think that’s the reason it’s not a gamble.

“I also think that’s the reason that they were then able to push the £7m through on the last day of the window.”

There isn’t much merit to his stance given the attacking contribution of the two players was similar in both seasons. Not only that, but Kent played far more football for Rangers last season than Edouard did for Celtic the season prior.

The Frenchman has since gone on to cement himself as the best striker in Scotland, scoring huge goals domestically and in Europe. He’s also a derby day performer and has led the Hoops to multiple trophies.

There’s really not much of a comparison between the two players, regardless of the fees involved.

It’s fair to say some Celtic fans haven’t taken too kindly to Beattie’s comments, with this lot taking to Twitter to share their thoughts…
