Celtic manager Neil Lennon wants former teammate Tommy Johnson to return to the club as a scout, The Scottish Daily Mail report (28/08 print edition, back page).

The paper say that recruitment consultant Nick Hammond is currently conducting an extensive review of the club’s player recruitment process.

Lee Congerton quit the club in May following the departure of Brendan Rodgers, so there’s a chance for the club to fix systemic problems and improve our ability to bring in quality players.

Now, Lennon is looking to make further changes by adding Johnson to his scouting staff. The former Hoops striker currently performs a similar role at Nottingham Forest.

While it does come across as a bit of a ‘jobs for the boys’ potential appointment, it is important that Lennon has staff in place he trusts and can work with moving forward.

Recruitment has been far too slow this summer and anything which improves our chances of bringing the right talent to the club is a positive.

It’s fair to say though that some fans are pretty sceptical about the potential arrangement. Some reckon that the club have acted far too slowly in the wake of Rodgers’ and Congerton’s departures.

Should we have had the right scouting and recruitment staff in place well before now?
