It’s nineteen years to the day since Celtic famously thrashed Rangers 6-2 at Celtic Park.

Iconic for fans of a certain vintage, it was a win that defined the Martin O’Neill revolution in 2000.

The season prior Celtic had suffered an abysmal year under the management of John Barnes and Kenny Dalglish. Rangers secured a treble and looked capable of dominating well into the new century.

O’Neill though brought ambition back to Celtic Park, signing big players like Chris Sutton and Joos Valgaeren in a huge summer for the club.

Also harnessing the talents of players such as Henrik Larsson, Stiliyan Petrov and Paul Lambert, it soon became apparent the Hoops would be near unstoppable.

Heading into the first derby of the season against Rangers, it was still unknown how we’d fare against Dick Advocaat’s men.

A stunning opening 11 minutes had us 3-0 up and despite the visitors scoring twice, Larsson and company would ensure a rout. The Demolition Derby was born.

The Swedish legend’s chip over Stefan Klos in the second half is widely regarded as one of the greatest Celtic goals ever.

The match would prove to be a turning point in the balance of power between Glasgow’s two big teams.

O’Neill would go on to guide the Hoops to the club’s first treble since the days of Jock Stein.

No wonder then that fans have taken to social media today to reminisce about the occasion on the 19th anniversary.

For these supporters, it’s a day that lives long in the memory…
