Many Tottenham Hotspur supporters believe it’s time for their club to do the right thing and sell Cameron Carter-Vickers to Celtic permanently.

Celtic signed the USA international on a season-long loan deal from the English Premier League club. Since then, CCV has become the club’s top centre-back, playing in all but 2 games since making his debut back in September [Transfermarkt].

The Daily Record, meanwhile, reported that Celtic have now opened talks with Spurs over a potential £6m dea that involves significant add-ons. There is said to be leeway on Spurs’ side regarding the fee, whilst Celtic have an option to buy the player at the end of the agreement too.

Carter-Vickers joined the Spurs academy aged 11 and has been on their books ever since. The now 24-year-old is now into his 7th loan move after failing to nail down a home elsewhere.

It remains to be seen whether the appointment of Antonio Conte as Spurs boss gives him a fresh opportunity in London next summer. But the early signs are that the EPL club are willing to discuss a deal now.

Celtic must explore all avenues to make Carter-Vickers move permanent

Whether Celtic decide to make their move now or not, it’s eventually a subject they’ll need to get round to finalising. There’s absolutely no excuse to let CCV get away from our grasp.

It doesn’t matter how things have gone for him at Spurs. It doesn’t matter how quickly it feels like their supporters want rid of him. He’s shown himself to be a commanding presence with strong leadership skills at the heart of our defence. That’s invaluable when building a new squad.

He’s plugged one of the most important gaps in the Postecoglou rebuild. Carl Starfelt has been going through some growing pains at Parkhead whilst Chris Jullien has been sidelined all season. Stephen Welsh, meanwhile, has also been on the fringes for long spells. CCV has been the only centre-back who can say he’s been solid all campaign.

The prospect of splashing out £6m may at face value appear to be big-money from a Celtic perspective. However, let’s not forget we spent £7m to sign Jullien back in 2019 [Scottish Sun]. It’s hardly uncharted territory.

And going by the Spurs supporters’ beliefs, they also feel the time is now for Carter-Vickers to move on permanently. Here’s a look at how they reacted to the news that the Hoops are looking to buy their man:
