Celtic are currently at the start of two months of football which could go a long way to determining how successful the club’s season will be.
That starts on Thursday against Lazio, where a good result could go a long way towards helping the Hoops reach the last 32 of the Europa League.
However, chances are that a week at the start of December could set the tone for the rest of Celtic’s season. The Hoops have two important games that week, and if they record two victories it will set the team up nicely for the rest of the season.
Win over rivals could be huge psychologically
The first game is the Betfred Cup Final against Rangers on the 8th of December. A win in that game could be a huge psychological blow for the Hoops against their nearest title rivals. It would be the second win against Rangers Neil Lennon has masterminded this season, and would be a sign that he knows how to handle Steven Gerrard’s tactics.
The Hoops then return to Cluj to take on the Romanian champions in their final Europa League group stage fixture five days after the cup final.
A win in that game could clinch progression to the last 32 of the competition. The Hoops will hopefully have clinched progression to the last 32 before then. If not though, then a win in Romania could settle it.
No need to fear European foes
Celtic showed in their 2-0 win over Cluj in October that they don’t have to fear playing the Romanian side. Indeed, they have improved since the teams played each other in the Champions League qualifiers at the start of the season.
Therefore, the Hoops should be looking to pick up the three points that would potentially guarantee European football after Christmas.
It is perhaps a dangerous game to look ahead to a months’ time at any football club. However, a good week at the start of December bodes well for the rest of Celtic’s season.
