Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers made a point of addressing his central defensive situation during the summer.
Auston Trusty has been brought in from Sheffield United and will provide competition for Liam Scales on the left-hand side of the backline.
Cameron Carter-Vickers continues to be one of the first names on the teamsheet when fit. Meanwhile, Stephen Welsh and Maik Nawrocki are also in the frame when injuries occur.
Intriguingly, the latter was told he could leave Celtic on loan before the end of the window. Nevertheless, he stayed put, but it does raise suspicions that Rodgers may want to alter his rearguard options further during his second spell in Glasgow.
With that in mind, there is one contract situation the club could look to keep tabs on over the next few months.
Swansea Ben Cabango is worth considering for Celtic
You can never have too many solid defenders at one club, and it may be worth Celtic forward planning if Nawrocki or any of his positional counterparts do decide to move elsewhere in months to come.
Should that happen, Swansea City’s Ben Cabango could be someone the Bhoys would be drawn to, given his suitability for Brendan Rodgers’ possession-oriented style of play and international experience.
The 24-year-old is out of contract at the Liberty Stadium next summer and has made 188 appearances for the Jacks, six of which this season, registering nine goals and four assists.

Per Fotmob, Cabango has already won 17 duels, made 19 recoveries and recorded a pass accuracy rate of 90.5% from 304 attempted balls this term in the English second tier across 2024/25.
Capped nine times by Wales, the Cardiff-born defender has been dribbled past less than once a game this campaign and has managed five clearances per match in the same average timeframe.
According to Salary Sport, Cabango is said to earn around £9,500 per week at Swansea, so there is no reason to suggest Celtic could accommodate his wage demands.
Manager Luke Williams admitted talks over an extension for the defender are ‘ongoing’ at the club, though there is no indication that he is close to signing on the dotted line [BBC Sport].
He also referenced Liam Cullen and Harry Darling’s state of play, as he said: “I think that’s something that is ongoing. Each of those players have got different set of circumstances.”
Performing wise investments in the market will take Celtic to the next level. Cabango could be a potential bargain signing that may creep onto the market if uncertainty over his long-term future at Swansea persists.
