The Celtic board are in for a rude awakening on season ticket sales if they don’t win the league

The time to renew season tickets is just around the corner for Celtic fans and while the board will be relaxed about the number of renewals, they may be in for a rude awakening.

Celtic fans have been protesting against the board failures to dip into their cash reserves and invest in the squad. There is also the ongoing dispute with the Green Brigade and the failure to let them back into Celtic Park.

Recent financial reports have said that Celtic are outclassing Premier League clubs, which probably leaves Dermot Desmond and co thinking that should be enough to appease supporters. However, if the league title goes to Hearts, or ends up at Ibrox, they will be in for a different reality.

Celtic fans will vote with their feet if they don’t win the league

Hoops fans have been patient for years, even while the board have continued to test that more and more.

Missing out on the league title would be devastating in every sense for the Hoops. Not only would that mean missing out on Champions League due to the new coefficient rankings but the gloating from rivals would be too much to bare.

Traditionally, Celtic have a near 99 per cent renewal rate on season tickets, with a high waiting list too but given the total mess the club is in on and off the pitch, fans may be put off renewing or purchasing.

The lack of investment over the years, and failure to build a legitimate connection with supporters, has left fans feeling unloved and unwanted by the club we love.

How do Celtic fans get the board to listen to their concerns?

Even if it is only a couple thousand fans that choose not to renew, that is still an alarming figure. Attendances seem to be creeping down, tickets are often available 24 hours before matches this season. Unlike other seasons, this feels more like a choice from supporters to not go.

A new manager and summer signings may help bring some excitement, but for the first time, it feels like supporters are edging towards sacrificing their season tickets to send the ultimate message to the board.
