Celtic’s recent record in qualifying for the Champions League is one that should shame the club. In the past six seasons, the Hoops have only managed to reach the group stages on two occasions.
That really is a damning statistic that should shame everyone at Celtic Park. The fact that the Hoops are in the Champions route each season yet still struggle to make the group stages is another statistic which should embarrass the club.
Recent defeat is worst of all
The recent 4-3 loss to Cluj might go down as the worst of all the recent failures. To concede four goals at home to a team that aren’t even that good really is a shambles for Celtic.
As for who gets the blame for the situation, the fans seem to be upset at both Peter Lawwell and Neil Lennon. It should be said though, that the players also deserve criticism for their poor display on the night.
Hoops must try to put defeat behind them
Although it might be hard, Celtic will now have to forget the game, and concentrate on winning the league, and qualifying for the Europa League.
After the first leg against Cluj, that is a situation few thought that Celtic would be in. Now it is a reality. Hopefully next season the Hoops can return to the Champions League group stages. The statistics would suggest that is unlikely to happen though.
