There we go then. A journalist has finally gone on the record with a report of Celtic approaching Jose Mourinho for the managerial job.
As soon as he left Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week, it was always going to happen. It was just a matter of when and in what form.
The messenger for this news is journalist Duncan Castles, speaking on the popular Transfer Window Podcast.
As we discussed earlier tonight, he reckons the Bhoys approached Mourinho regarding the job, only to be told by the Portuguese, or his representatives, that it wasn’t going to happen.
It likely was never going to happen. Just as it didn’t in May 2019 when prominent Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio reported a similar Celtic approach before offering the job to Neil Lennon.
Jose Mourinho to Celtic gets supporters talking
The latest report has definitely got supporters talking at least – for a variety of reasons.
If anything, the most newsworthy element of Duncan Castles’ report, perhaps without him realising it, is that Celtic would be talking to another manager at all.
In the midst of a reported agreement in principle with Eddie Howe, it’s a sign that discussions perhaps aren’t quite as advanced with Howe as we’d like.
As Celtic’s stony silence continues, we shouldn’t be surprised at these rumours and reports. That’s always going to happen when concrete information isn’t available.
Anxiety continues to persist amongst sections of the support. Others are just growing tired of it all. Amusement is even coming to the fore right now.
These supporters have taken to social media tonight to share their thoughts on the Mourinho report and the situation in general…
In other news, Jurgen Klopp’s Champions League complaining has merit, but Celtic have it much worse.
