The lesson Celtic must learn from Kieron Bowie’s impact in Serie A

Kieron Bowie was widely mentioned as a Celtic target in January.

Then at Hibs, the striker was a man in demand — however, Celtic ended up making the loan signings of Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu.

Neither of that duo appeared in a single Hoops matchday squad after the split.

Meanwhile, Bowie has scored over half of Hellas Verona’s goals since he moved to the Serie A side in January.

Celtic shouldn’t have been scared off by Kieron Bowie’s asking price

Bowie has scored in three of Hellas’ last five games, including draws away against Juventus and Inter Milan.

Despite his contributions, however, they have been relegated to Serie B after a dismal season.

As a result, Tuttomercatoweb now report that Bologna are targeting a move to sign Bowie upon the side’s relegation from Serie B this summer.

Of course, the same club have enjoyed success with the signings of Scottish players Aaron Hickey and Lewis Ferguson, the latter of whom is now their captain.

What can Celtic learn from this? Well, Hibs £7 million price tag for Bowie drew scepticism from some in Parkhead circles when his name was first floated.

But if he is to move again this summer, Hellas will already be looking at a profit, whilst Celtic go back to the drawing board in their own search for a reliable striker.

Scottish Premiership players are increasingly enjoying success when exported to other leagues. As a result, their price tags are going up.

If Celtic are to pursue any of the many Scottish Premiership players with whom they are linked ahead of the summer, they must be willing to pay more than what they’re used to forking out for players on their doorstep.

Scottish Premiership players being linked with Celtic

Bowie’s ex-teammate, Josh Mulligan, recently spent four months on the sidelines due to an injury, before which he was reportedly catching the eye of Celtic scouts with his form at Easter Road.

Celtic are also paying attention to Fir Park, where Tawanda Maswanhise, Elijah Just and Calum Ward are all reportedly earning admirers at Parkhead.

Of course, Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou is also being linked heavily with a move to Glasgow’s East End.
