The potential internal solution to Brendan Rodgers’ three-striker desire at Celtic

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has previously referenced that he would like three strikers in the building to compete for minutes.

The Irishman made his feelings known after Rocco Vata departed for Watford this summer, revealing that he was offered the chance to take up the role.

He stated: “Rocco was offered it, and he was told that he was going to be one of the three strikers at Celtic. He decided that it wasn’t going to be for him. So he then left Celtic. That is absolutely fine, and we wish him all the very best.”

Since then, Rodgers has slightly backpedalled on claims that he would like a three-pronged attack, at least by bringing one in from the outside amid Daizen Maeda’s display against Hibernian the other week.

In that case, any solution is likely to come via internal means. Whether that be someone from the academy set-up or already in the first-team. On that topic, there is a youngster who may become too difficult to ignore if he keeps up his recent form.

Daniel Cummings in a rich vein of form for Celtic B

Starting the new campaign in lighning fashion, Celtic B youngster Daniel Cummings has scored seven goals in his first six Lowland League matches this campaign. Within that, a hat-trick against Broomhill earlier this month stands out as a highlight.

Having also hit 12 strikes in 19 outings last season, the 18-year-old has exemplified his eye for goal and may be a contender worth considering, in time, for the third striker role should he continue to deliver in front of the target.

Despite the desire from the support to see homegrown talent come through from Lennoxtown, it is important to remember they are still young men finding their way in the game.

Rodgers has made that clear about Francis Turley amid his recent involvement against St Mirren, indicating he will be allowed to blossom into a senior player at his own pace.

Nevertheless, it is telling that the manager wants a younger face to help Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah lead the line for Celtic.

Sourcing one from the market is possible, but he has made offering talent a chance to shine a priority mission during his second spell in Glasgow.

With the volume of transfer speculation doing the rounds just now taking most of our attention, it will be intriguing to see if Rodgers does pay into this school of thought as the season progresses.
