Chris Sutton isn’t pulling any punches with his latest assessment of the title race as he makes a backhanded Celtic compliment that should sting Hearts and Rangers.
Sutton’s logic is simple and brutal as he says that if this ‘poor’ Celtic side still wins the Scottish Premiership, the rest of the league, especially Hearts and Rangers, should be embarrassed.
With just eight games left to play, Celtic are two points behind Hearts and one ahead of Rangers at the top of the league and if Martin O’Neill manages to defend the title, Sutton says the Hoops boss and fans will laugh at their rivals.

Will we hunt Hearts down and win the title?
Chris Sutton warns Rangers & Hearts to prepare to be mocked by Celtic
Celtic looked dead and buried this season as they changed manager more times than Kasper Schmeichel changed his sling.
And the former Celtic striker told BBC 606 if the Hoops win it, they will have all the mocking rights at the end of the season, “If Celtic win the league this season, they’d have done it without a centre-forward. Think about that. I think Celtic have used five different centre-forwards.
“And I mean, in recent times, Martin O’Neill is making a substitution at half time, changing that position. I mean, that’s pretty incredible in itself. If you look at the number of goals, I think Celtic were 112 goals last season, something like that.
“I don’t know if they got this, 58, whatever it is, this season. You know, numbers wise, they are massively down to what they were last season. And it’s staggering.
“And there will be, I think, a thought process if Celtic do get over the line this season. I mean, I think they’ll be laughing at the opposition really, because it’s been a poor Celtic side, in truth.”
Why Chris Sutton’s Celtic verdict is bang on
If Celtic do win the title, Hearts and Rangers should hang their heads with embarrassment. This is the weakest side the Bhoys have had in over a decade for a title run-in.
As well as failing to replace Nicolas Kuhn and Kyogo Furuhashi, Celtic have been missing Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alistair Johnston, for much of the season.
And then if you add Kasper Schmeichel, Kieran Tierney and Callum McGregor to the mix, Celtic have had at least eight players missing for big games at some points this season.
This was the perfect time for Celtic’s opponents to capitalise, and if Rangers and Hearts cannot do it now, then they never will.
