Wilfried Nancy won’t have long to wait until he can start building his Celtic squad.
The January transfer window is just around the corner and the Frenchman will want to start making additions and getting rid of those surplus to requirements.
We’re not sure how much money he will have to spend as far as it stands, but if the funds are short, there are still some potential bargain options to pick up.
Nancy knows the MLS well and the 48-year-old may look to go and raid the division to bolster his squad.
Alistair Johnston is a perfect example of a success story, and 67 Hail Hail has identified three players out of contract in 2026 that could fit the mould.
How many signings do Celtic need in January?
Diego Rossi – Columbus Crew
One of the players that we have previously tipped Celtic to sign is Diego Rossi.
The striker has been in fine form for a number of years in the MLS with LAFC and Columbus Crew.
Rossi had a spell in Europe previously but struggled to leave a mark in Turkey, however, playing under Nancy may help him thrive on the continent.
He could also prove to be a perfect replacement for Daizen Maeda, but he may be on his way out of Celtic in January.
David Ayala – Portland Timbers
There will be a time when Callum McGregor needs to be replaced.
As someone in the heartbeat of midfield, Celtic need someone that can allow the likes of Reo Hatate to offer their services in the attacking departments.
David Ayala is 23 and already a mainstay in the Portland Timbers midfield, sitting in front of their defence and allowing those more advanced to leave their mark up top.
Ayala would have to come in as a mentor to McGregor, but could be the ideal candidat to take over.

Obed Vargas – Seattle Sounders
Last on the list is a promising 20-year-old midfielder tipped for big things, but who could be allowed to leave for free if he can’t agree to a new deal.
Obed Vargas scored five goals last season and has unsurprisingly attracted interest from top European clubs like Ajax, Sporting CP and some Premier League teams.
Vargas looks creative, free-flowing, and a player who would be an obvious upgrade on some of the back-up options like Paulo Bernardo.
