The news, as reported by BBC Sport, that Hearts have asked all staff members to take a 50% wage cut to deal with the current football crisis is bound to mean that some players will become available for transfer.
One such player is striker Uche Ikpeazu, as the Daily Record is reporting that the player will likely be available to sign in the summer, or whenever the season ends.
Interestingly, Celtic have been linked with a move for the player in the past. West London Sport reported in October that the Hoops along with QPR were interested in signing the player.
However, he should not be on Neil Lennon’s radar when it comes to possible new signings in the summer or whenever the transfer window opens.
Doesn’t score enough goals
The reason for that – he just does not score enough goals. He has only scored two goals in 29 games this season. That is nowhere near enough for a striker, indeed, Celtic’s Vakoun Bayo, a player who seems out of favour with the club, has scored the same number of goals this season.
The chances of Ikpeazu replacing the likes of Odsonne Edouard or Leigh Griffiths in the Hoops side seem slim to none, and even if Edouard leaves, for example, there is no way that Ikpeazu would be a replacement.
Would be a squad player at best
If he was to be even considered by Celtic, it would be as a squad player at best.
However, you have to think that Neil Lennon will be looking for players who will make more of an impact in front of goal when it comes to signing strikers in the future.
That means that Ikpeazu will not be under consideration. It remains to be seen if Celtic will sign a forward when the transfer window re-opens, but if the Hoops do, the chances of it being Ikpeazu would have to be virtually nil.
