Vakoun Issouf Bayo should be given opportunity in opening league fixture

This season looks to be a make or break one for Celtic striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo. That may seem like a slightly harsh comment at first.

However, since joining the Hoops for £2 million in January he has rarely featured due to a few injuries. He has not had the chance to impress manager Neil Lennon.

You have to think that if he does not hit the ground running this season, the Hoops may opt to sign another striker.

The player is now fit again, as revealed by Lennon on the Hoops’ Twitter account.

The first league game of the season against St Johnstone seems like an ideal game for Bayo to feature in. With the Hoops playing Cluj on Saturday, perhaps either Odsonne Edouard or Leigh Griffiths will not be risked against the Saints.

Therefore, Bayo could step in. He is unlikely to start the game it has to be said. A place on the bench is perhaps all he can aim for at the moment.

Should Bayo come on and get 20 to 30 minutes of football it would do the player good. It would be by far his longest appearance for the Hoops in a competitive game.

It would give him a chance to score his first goal for the Hoops as well, which is always important for a striker. Who knows if Bayo will be a success for Celtic this season. He can get his domestic season off to a good start with a decent display against St Johnstone though.
