Celtic have been tying down players for the future with some frequency recently. First it was James Forrest committing his future to the club. Then came Scott Bain. Now, earlier on Wednesday, Callum McGregor signed a new deal to stay at the club.
Three players being kept at the club for the foreseeable future is very good business by Celtic. Hopefully there will be more players that will agree new deals in the weeks to come. Here we look at who the potential next players to sign up at the club will be.
Perhaps this seemed unlikely up until recently. After all, Brown did sign a two-year deal with the Hoops in the summer. However, the Celtic captain has played like a man you would never know turned 34 in the summer. He has continued the good form that he showed under Brendan Rodgers. So well has Brown performed for the Hoops that Neil Lennon recently indicated that he would like the player to sign a new deal with the Hoops. Perhaps a one-year extension could be on the cards
It makes sense for the Hoops to get Ajer tied down to the club for as long as possible. He is still at the start of his career, and could go on to play for one of the bigger sides in Europe should be maintain his level of form. He has made some mistakes recently, but those can be ironed out over time. Ajer looks to be a player with a big future in the game. Hopefully the next few years at least will be spent at Celtic Park, before the player inevitably moves on to pastures new.
Possibly Celtic’s most important player, and the player most likely to leave the club for a huge sum of money some time in the future. It is sadly evident that Edouard will only be at Celtic for a few more seasons at most. Therefore, the club should give the player a new bumper contract on improved terms. That would ensure that the Hoops get a vast amount of money for the player. A new deal for Edouard would top off a great few weeks of new contracts agreed by the club.
