Who will be the odd man out in Celtic defensive partnership?

Now that Celtic have completed the £7 million signing of Christopher Jullien, Hoops boss Neil Lennon has an intriguing dilemma on his hands.

He currently has three first-pick centre-backs. Jullien, Kristoffer Ajer and Jozo Simunovic. However, as he is unlikely to switch to three at the back, only two can play at once.

Not an easy decision to make

Which begs the question: which player will be the ‘odd man out’ and left on the bench? It will not be an easy decision for Lennon to make.

Both Ajer and Simunovic thrived in the team towards the end of the season. Ajer turned in his most consistent run of performances yet.

Whilst Simunovic became the player that all at Celtic hoped he would become a few seasons ago.

Both players were vital to the ‘treble treble’

You don’t pay £7 million for a player and put him on the bench. There is no doubt that Jullien will be one of the centre-backs. Now Neil Lennon must decide who the other player will be.

Perhaps the upcoming Champions League qualifier against Sarajevo will provide a clue. Jullien may well start that game. Whoever partners him could form the new first choice centre-back partnership.

It is a decision that Neil Lennon won’t be taking lightly.
