Celtic should do all they can to announce Eddie Howe as their new manager this week.

The club once again finds itself at an all-time low. We have a fanbase that continues to be totally detached from the boardroom. A derby loss that will leave plenty of wounds ahead of the summer. And last of all a managerial saga that’s simply getting tiresome beyond belief.

Celtic and Eddie Howe clearly looks like it’s going to happen. In fact, according to the Daily Mail last week [28/04, page 83], the Englishman was said to be piecing together his backroom staff.

That suggests a deal is done, and if that’s the case, Celtic should insist to Howe that an announcement is made this week. It shouldn’t be down to the incoming manager as to when this gets announced. Now is the best time for the club, and therefore it’s exactly when it should happen.

And why is this the best time for the club? Why, considering we still have two matches to play this season? Because supporters need a boost of an impact these final matches can’t offer them.

Celtic fans need a boost; Eddie Howe must get announced pronto

If Celtic win their penultimate game against St Johnstone? So what. If we go to Easter Road and end our recent hoodoo there? Whoop-de-do. Winning both matches? My goodness we would be spoiled.

To sum up – these games are now irrelevant. You could understand in recent times why the club may wanted to hold off. We had a massive Scottish Cup clash at Ibrox still to play. We then went back to Ibrox on Sunday looking to snap their invincible league run. These things were both important to Celtic fans, and achieving one or both of them would’ve given the club a timely boost.

With season-ticket renewals just around the corner, the club needs a leg-up from somewhere. Our recent games at Ibrox simply haven’t done it, and once again supporters are in a state of apathy towards the club.

The only thing they can truly do to give us a much-needed boost is to get Howe in the door immediately. Have him confirmed and throw supporters a bone for next season. That simply must be our main focus.

It doesn’t matter if Howe doesn’t have his backroom team in place yet. He still wouldn’t need to take over until the end of the season. But just having that confirmation would give fans so much assurance.

It would allow us to be safe in the knowledge that Howe is already starting work behind the scenes. That building blocks are being put in place for the summer and that we’re on the right track. Only by announcing Howe’s appointment can they do that and ensure that season tickets start selling fast.

Hopefully we’re in for a big few days.
