Luke Graham was once compared to Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite by Dundee boss Steven Pressley.

Graham was linked with a move to Celtic as the search for centre-back options seems to continue despite the end of the transfer window.

Stephen Welsh is likely to stay at Motherwell beyond the summer and loanee Benjamin Arthur isn’t expected to play a minute for Celtic, and therefore, will probably return to Brentford.

Graham fits the mould of buying younger players from fellow Scottish Premiership sides, and he has already been drawing comparisons to Premier League players.

Steven Pressley says Luke Graham is like Jarrad Branthwaite

The 22-year-old has been attracting lots of interest for his performances at Dens Park and been a vital part of Pressley’s bid to keep Dundee in the top flight.

Pressley has worked with young talents, including Branthwaite while at Carlisle United, and sees lots of similarities between Graham and the England international.

He told Press and Journal in January 2026: “When I look around at centre-backs, young centre-backs, he’s one of the top ones out there.

“I was lucky that I brought through at Carlisle young Jarrad Branthwaite.

“He’s now an England international, so I’ve seen first-hand his level. I think Luke Graham looks very comparable to that.”

Celtic could try and sign Luke Graham on the cheap this summer

No signings will be made before the transfer window opens, especially as decisions will need to be made on who becomes the new Celtic manager.

We know that Celtic are partial to a domestic signing or two on the cheap, which is where Graham comes in.

His contract expires in 2027, meaning he will have 12 months left on his deal at the start of the season.

Dundee will not want to lose a key talent for nothing so may decide to cash in. They reportedly wanted £1m for his services, but that could drop if they know they have to make a quick sale.
