After making his debut in a League Cup win against Queen of the South, McStay was then given a real test by being named in the side to play against Aberdeen.
The Dons were UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup holders at the time and one of the best teams in Europe altogether.
That didn’t bother McStay, who scored in a 3-1 victory at Pittodrie on the day to secure an important win for the Hoops.
McStay left a lasting impression on Ferguson, who actually broke his own rule of not being involved in testimonial matches by bringing his Manchester United team to Celtic Park in 1995 so that they could play against the midfielder in his final game before retirement.

‘Maestro’ went on to win seven major trophies with his boyhood club before hanging his boots up in 1997.
His time unfortunately coincided during a period of struggle, which included the club finding themselves minutes away from bankruptcy before Fergus McCann saved the Bhoys.
