Agent comments make it clear Alexandre Mendy to Celtic is unlikely

Alexandre Mendy’s agent has already played down the prospect of the forward leaving Caen this summer, prior to Celtic’s reported interest in the player.

As we discussed yesterday, it was reported by L’Equipe this week that the Bhoys had made a bid for the player, with the Ligue 2 side looking for more money than what was on offer.

Mendy appears committed to Caen and his agent certainly hasn’t been in the business of talking up an exit this summer. Quite the opposite in fact.

Alexandre Mendy to Celtic doesn’t seem likely

He told Le10 Sport earlier this month: “He is followed by European clubs. Alexandre is focused on his good season and wants to do everything possible to ensure that the team finishes in the best place.

“There is no departure on the agenda, Alexandre will be at Caen next season.”

Mendy has netted 16 goals this season so it’s easy to understand why other teams would be interested. Celtic could also have a need for a third striker next term if Albian Ajeti ends up leaving the club.

However, this one has always seemed a bit fanciful, not least because the 28-year-old has a contract that runs until 2024 and is apparently very happy at his current club.

If his agent is also playing down speculation then we can probably hold off expecting too much to come from this Celtic link.

The Bhoys are going to be attached to a lot of names this summer, especially if we make it straight into the Champions League group stages. But usually, a bit of digging can make the situation clearer beyond the initial transfer report!
