The Celtic quest to sign Albian Ajeti received a boost late this week after Neil Lennon held further talks with the agent of the striker, Sky Sports reports.
The broadcaster believes the Bhoys boss spoke to his representatives on Thursday night, finally convincing the Swiss international to choose a move to Scotland after initial doubts.
With English Premier League and European teams also said to be keen on Ajeti’s services, Lennon has done great work here to put the club in pole position to significantly strengthen his attacking options.
Sky Sports say the striker, who moved to West Ham United from Basel for £8m last summer, could join the Scottish champions as early as next week on a loan-to-buy deal.
Despite things not working out for Ajeti in England last season, his record in Switzerland should be cause for excitement amongst Celtic supporters.
Like current Hoops loan star Mohamed Elyounoussi, the 10-cap international impressed at Basel.
Ajeti scored 43 goals and assisted 21 more in 96 appearances there before signing for the Hammers at the age of 22 (Transfermarkt).
With Vakoun Bayo on the verge of an exit and recent doubts about Leigh Griffiths’ ability to compete consistently, he would be a fine addition to the squad beyond Odsonne Edouard and Patryk Klimala.
That he had doubts about making a move to the Scottish Premiership should not concern fans either.
The fact he has ambition and sees himself playing at an elite level only shows he has the kind of confidence we should be looking to recruit.
After a couple of false starts in this saga already, hopefully we see this move completed early next week as Sky Sports report.
That would be a real morale booster ahead of European qualifiers later this month.
