Ange confirms Celtic Jota signing intent after stunning performance vs Dundee

Ange Postecoglou has said Celtic would be “more than happy” to keep Jota at the club on a permanent basis after his stunning display against Dundee this afternoon.

Jota scored two and assisted another in the 4-2 victory at Dens Park. He was undoubtedly the star man on the pitch, showing exactly why Celtic moved for him on loan in the summer.

And yet, this could be just the beginning for the attacker at the club, given Celtic hold an option to buy him permanently from Benfica.

Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland after the match today [14:09], Postecoglou made it clear how much of a fan he is of the player, stating: “He’s doing really well. He’s a young man who knows that he’s got a hell of a lot of talent. But he also knows he needs the right environment to do that.

“He hasn’t had an easy sort of start to his career. He was out on loan last year and it didn’t work out for him. I think he’s loving life here. My job is to make him the best possible player he can be.

“If he feels that this is the place for his future, then we’d be more than happy to keep him here. He’s got a pretty good head on his shoulders. He knows the best way forward for him is to keep playing his football and the rest will take care of itself.”

The clamouring for Celtic to sign Jota is going to rumble on and on until he puts pen to paper or confirms he is set to move elsewhere.

Although the Bhoys hold the first option on his signature, ultimately it is up to the player to decide whether or not he fancies a permanent switch to Scotland.

There’s a long time to go between now and the end of the season and if he keeps this up then I am certain many other clubs across the continent will be keen on his signature.

That may be why it’s so important that Celtic make their intent and offer to the player known early, so we can secure his services before other sides really get an opportunity to sway him.

Get him signed!
