Ange divulges ideal Celtic transfer scenario for January

Ange Postecoglou has outlined his aggressive Celtic January transfer plan, saying he wants new Celtic players in the door by the time of kick-off against Rangers, confirming a report from the weekend.

That’s the ideal scenario, at least. The Celtic boss, cognisant of the squad building that needs done at Paradise, is eager to avoid a situation like the summer. 12 players were brought in, many in the latter stages of the pre-season transfer window. That rush is something the Celtic manager doesn’t want to repeat.

With the stakes looking incredibly high when Celtic face Rangers on the 2nd of January, a deep squad is a prerequisite. And Ange, although suggesting he’s being idealistic, is keen to get as much done early as possible.

The Celtic boss said [Sun]: “It’s probably more idealistic than realistic.

“But if you shoot for the stars, they say you land on the moon. So I’m pushing to get them in as early as possible in the window.

“To get them before January 2 might be a stretch, but I do want them as soon as I can. That period before we restart could be crucial in integrating any new players we have, rather than have what happened in the summer window where the league had started while we were still signing players.

“I don’t want to be in that situation.”

For Ange Postecoglou and Celtic, January transfer plan is feasible, if not just good planning

Of course, were there no limitations, Ange would bring in new guys this morning. At the time of writing, barring any miracle updates, Celtic have no strikers for tonight.

Someone like Daizen Maeda would certainly be useful for Celtic in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Bhoys have been prominently linked with Maeda, as well as Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi, all from the J League. With their league season finished, the ideal time to strike is, of course, right now.

At the very least, it’s great to see our manager being honest. Umming and ahhing over transfer prospects can grow weary, especially at this time of year. Ange Postecoglou is saying there are targets in mind, and he wants them at the club as soon as possible.

As my colleague John McGinley said, it’ll likely be far too premature to expect any new faces for the Derby against Rangers. But the signs, nonetheless, are very encouraging for Celtic in the January transfer window.
