Ange has just given the clearest sign yet that Celtic are going to have a class January window

As we discussed earlier, Ange Postecoglou’s comments on new CEO Michael Nicholson could be seen as a public show of support for a maligned figure amongst some sections of the support.

But, far more importantly for Celtic’s season, they are also a signal of intent. In fact, it seems that Postecoglous is very, very confident that Celtic are going to deliver big, giving him a squad with the depth and ability to make a title charge.

There are tentative signs that, finally, there is a bit of unified thinking from the manager through to the board on what we need in the transfer market.

Postecoglou, if you’ve missed it, told The Scottish Sun: “We’ve been working really hard on this window for quite a while. We knew it would be important and January is not an easy one.

“It’s not one where you really want to do too much because there is sometimes a desperation around it in terms of the business. So we set our task early on that — irrespective of how the first half of the year went. We knew what targets we wanted, and what kind of players. And Michael has been the driving force.

“Michael has taken the lead and he’s working awfully hard in the background to make sure we get what we need done. We rely on people like Michael and Chris McKay (chief financial officer) and others, to get deals done and support my vision.

“From the moment I was appointed I’ve worked very closely with Michael on a lot of the deals. I felt comfortable and I think there’s a bit of synergy there with the way he thinks and the way I think. Our visions are aligned.”

Ange is almost talking in the past tense at points here, with regards to January moves, making me think deals have actually been done and are either waiting to be rubber-stamped or just announced.

It’s all a refreshing change from what we’ve heard from Neil Lennon, Brendan Rodgers and Ronny Deila in recent years. You know, the “January is a difficult time and there are no guarantees” patter.

It really sounds like Celtic are well prepared here and are getting ready to delight the support with a number of early signings that deliver a major boost to the first-team squad.
